This evening we welcomed a new family to our gathering. They were referred to us from our friends at Samaritan Counseling. We listened intently as they poured out their story filled with love, fear, frustration and bewilderment about a family member whose substance use has impacted not only his life, but the entire family as well. We discussed strategies on how to have that “difficult conversation” to relay to him, coming from a position of love, what the family “sees”, what they “fear” and what they “hope” for. We also talked about setting boundaries and identifying enabling behaviors the family employs as a coping mechanism in response to how this young man’s substance use impacts the family dynamics.
Such a rich, heartfelt “kitchen table” conversation.
As we wrapped up for the evening, it was clear that this family left with some tools and a sense of hope borne out of our conversation. That’s what The Daybreak Project is all about. Giving hope to what often times feels like a whole lot of hopelessness.
If you would like more information about the meeting or the information we went over, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. My phone number, e-mail address and a confidential e-mail submission form are all on the Contact page of this website.
